Finlay Motorsports Mexico City Qualifying Report
The Mooresville, NC – based team struggled yesterday during practice, completing less than 10 laps due to a problem with the power steering. The team worked frantically attempting to diagnose the problem but unfortunately it turned out to be a lengthy fix. The crew changed the electrical harness and was able to return to the track this morning for the scheduled hour long practice session.
“It’s been a game of catch up for us," stated Michael Valiante. “We lost the entire day yesterday because of the power steering problem and we’re just behind the eight ball. We’re just going to have to run a smart race tomorrow and march up through the field."
Qualifying the No.19 machine in the 15th position is not exactly what Finlay had in mind but he is however prepared to do whatever it takes to run a consistent stint and pick up as many positions as possible before turning the car over to his teammate, Michael Valiante.
“I’m a little disappointed with qualifying," explained Rob Finlay. “Missing yesterday’s practice sessions really put us behind but I’m planning on making up at least five positions in the first turn," he added jokingly.
Finlay Motorsports would like nothing more than to pull off another top-10 finish in Mexico City, adding to their top-10 result in the 2007 Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona earlier this year.
The final practice for the Mexico City event is scheduled for tomorrow morning followed by the drop of the green flag a few hours later. Speed will carry the race Live at 4:00 p.m. ET, be sure to check your local listings.
