Indy 500 Fan Tour announced

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway kicks off the 2007 Summer of Speed and the 91st Running of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race by taking the Indy 500 Fan Tour back on the road, giving fans the chance to experience "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

Designed to bring the thrill and anticipation of the Indianapolis 500 to fans, the Tour will travel across Indiana and throughout the Midwest. The Tour starts Sunday, Feb. 11 in Indianapolis and continues through the 2007 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 27.

The Tour is free for fans of all ages.

"Since the Indianapolis 500 has been an essential part of motorsports history, we wanted to give our fans a way to see firsthand what makes the Indianapolis 500 such a great event," IMS President Joie Chitwood said. "The Fan Tour brings that excitement right to fans' communities, increasing the anticipation for another memorable Month of May at the Speedway."

The Tour kicks off from 1-5 p.m., Feb. 11 at Fastimes Indoor Karting in Indianapolis. IndyCar® Series drivers, including Sarah Fisher, Vitor Meira and Ed Carpenter, and Indy Pro Series driver Travis Gregg, will race against local Indianapolis media and celebrities, including "Survivor" star Rupert Boneham. Fans can watch the competition and get a first-hand look at the Indy 500 Fan Tour.

A 35-foot trailer adorned with the 2007 Indianapolis 500 logo and images illustrating the events that make the Indianapolis 500 the world's largest single-day sporting event will accompany the Fan Tour to each stop.

Other components of the Indy 500 Fan Tour:

.A full-size IndyCar Series simulator

.Various collectables from drivers who competed in the Indianapolis 500, including a collection of helmets from past and current drivers and a pair of driving gloves from two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves
