Rolex 24 by the numbers

On January 27, 2007 GAINSCO #99 drivers Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty and Jimmy Vasser will begin one of racing’s most challenging tests the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Raceway. This all-American line-up will be assisted by a group of experienced professionals in the pits who have spent the better part of the last three months preparing for the win and the unexpected.

DISTANCE: 2470 miles or 700 laps in a 24 hour period. Equivalent to driving from Los Angeles to New York City in 24 hours driving at an average speed of 120 mph.

PITSTOPS: 30
The Bob Stallings Racing crew will remain in the pit box for 24 hours, prepared to change tires, fuel or make repairs at a moments notice. Our engineers will remain on the timing stand strategizing and calling the race for 24 hours straight. This is an endurance race for the crew as much as it is for the drivers.

TIRES: 30 sets of Hoosier Tires

FUEL: 500 gallons of race fuel

GEARBOX: There are 22 sifts per lap, that’s 15,400 shifts in a 24 hour period. That’s tough on the Xtrac gearbox; the drivers must take care of their equipment in order to make it to the end.

TURNS: They’ll turn 9,100 times over 24 hours. Based on 13 turns per lap

SPEED: The top speed is 185 mph. The race lap average is 120 mph. Caution laps and pitstops will take the average lap speed to approximately 103 mph.

Braking: 3500 hard braking zones

The Prize: The honor of winning one of the world’s most prestigious races and $100,000.00, a custom-designed Rolex watch for each driver and pure gratification.
