Manufacturers to get F1 voice

The car makers involved in Formula One racing are set to get an official voice within the sport’s governing body, the FIA revealed on Monday.

The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council has voted to establish a new Formula One Manufacturers’ Advisory Commission, with representatives from BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ferrari, Honda, Renault and Toyota all eligible for membership.

BMW’s Professor Burkhard Goeschel has been invited to become Chairman of the new commission, while the FIA will be represented, as required, by President Max Mosley, technical delegate Charlie Whiting and technical consultants Tony Purnell and Peter Wright.

The move follows last November’s agreement between Goeschel (on behalf of the manufacturers) and Mosley concerning the future path of Formula One racing. Specifics relating to exact technical regulations are still to be established – something the new commission should help facilitate. Formula1.com
