Overheard in Indy – 2

UPDATE As we rumored over the weekend, John Andretti's deal to drive a third car for Panther Racing was confirmed Tuesday. He is the 33rd driver….assuming Milka Duno doesn't crash again and she does qualify. They will have to dial more wing into her car so she doesn't lose control again. It's sad to see what was once the greatest race in the world have so many mediocre drivers and to qualify you just need to show up and put in four laps without crashing….regardless of how slow you go.

05/12/07 Rumor has it that Panther Racing might run another car for John Andretti (Pictured right talking to Uncle Mario, photo by Tim Wohlford) on the 2nd weekend of qualifying. If he makes the race we hear Derrick Walker's Champ Car team might provide the pit service on race day.

And speaking of Champ Car, Eric Bachelart who is borderline able to keep his Champ Car team afloat was spotted with Andretti Green Racing's John Lopes in the Indy garage area today. Hmm…….maybe we'll see Bachelart move his team back to the IRL at some point in time.

The high-definition broadcast of Indy qualifying Saturday by ABC received a lot of kudos. Any racing series not broadcasting in high definition in today's day and age is doing a big disservice to its sponsors…whose logos show up so bright, clear and readable in high-definition.
