Vettel on pole at Silverstone

Sebastian Vettel might be the next Michael Schumacher and given his pace in the rain, the next Ayrton Senna, all wrapped into one

Formula One's fastest driver, Sebastian Vettel, put his Red Bull on pole for the 2nd straight race. Vettel, fastest in both Q2 and Q3, manhandled his Adrian Newey creation around the flat Silverstone circuit.

In what might be the final F1 race ever at the famous British circuit, Rubens Barrichello was 2nd in his Brawn ahead of Vettel's teammate Mark Webber.

Briton Button, with a 26-point in the championship, and 32 ahead of German Vettel, struggled with "low grip" but also bemoaned his Brawn team's "odd decision" to call him into the pits early.

"Qualifying was not fantastic — but that's the way it was," he said.

Button's teammate Rubens Barrichello is a few tenths up the road in second, ahead of an angry Mark Webber, who shook his fist at a slowing Kimi Raikkonen on his final qualifying hot lap.

Australian Webber accused the Finn of "drinking vodka" or "dreaming" on the racing line before Stowe corner.

Championship leader Jenson Button was only sixth, behind Toyota's Jarno Trulli and William’s Kazuki Nakajima.

Adrian Sutil had a big crash at Vale. The German, who reported brake failure in his destroyed Force India, had a mandatory visit to the medical centre but was given the all-clear. His accident caused a red flag at the end of Q1 and caught out several drivers, including Lewis Hamilton.

Reigning champion and last year's Silverstone winner Lewis Hamilton once again never made it out of Q1 as 2009 has proven he's not able to do anything unless he has the best car and his success last year was all about the car. At least his McLaren teammate Kovalainen made it out of Q1 but was eliminated in Q2.

Fastest in the morning session once again, Nico Rosberg choked in qualifying and could do no better than 7th in the second Williams, ahead of Toyota's Timo Glock.

Raikkonen in 9th was the sole Ferrari in the top ten, as Massa could only manage 11th, behind Fernando Alonso's Renault.

Watching Vettel saw at the wheel in his Red Bull and ride over curbs at over 190 mph proves he has the sort of fast reflexes exhibited by Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna and his more experienced yet frustrated teammate Mark Webber (fastest in Q1) was once again deflated by the super quick Vettel who last year buried Toro Rosso teammate Sebastien Bourdais.

And who can forget his Senna-like dominance in the rain at Monza last year in an inferior Toro Rosso car? Vettel might be the next Schumacher and Senna wrapped into one.
