Mathiasen Motorsports focuses on 2009

In 2008, Mathiasen Motorsports team owners Ray and Leslie Mathiasen took their passion and desire to build a top Formula Atlantic racing team to the next level by pairing the engineering talents of Alain Clarinval with one of the world’s finest young racing talents, American Jonathan Bomarito. This resulted in a season where the team earned the most wins, pole positions and led the most laps by more than double the next competitor on their way to a solid runner up position in the final Championship standings. Ray and Leslie Mathiasen were also honored by the series at the season ending banquet as the Team Owners of the Year. Not a team to dwell on the two motor failure issues which cost the team its first championship, Mathiasen instead will use the lessons learned from last season to build on their success and hone the focus toward winning the 2009 Championship title.

Mathiasen sets off for 2009 with a heartfelt thanks and farewell to Bomarito as he moves on with his career and now seeks to fill the seat with another championship contender. The rest of the team will return from last season and the continuity will allow Mathiasen Motorsports to seamlessly focus on maximizing performance out of the box as testing for the 2009 season continues in full force to locate the best young racer to join the Mathiasen team.

With the recent announcement of a new owner for the series and plans in the works to make the series more exciting to all who participate, Mathiasen is eager to test the best and to focus on taking all of the experience and data from the great performance of last season to move the team up to the top step of the podium with a championship focus as its priority.

The team began its full testing schedule in late October 2008 and will continue to test now that the series “blackout" dates have passed. Mathiasen is currently fine tuning its list of prospective drivers who desire to win races and chase an Atlantic championship as their goal in 2009.

Formula Atlantic, North America’s premiere open wheel development series, has a 35 year storied tradition of advancing the careers of some of the world’s top racing talent. From legends such as Villeneuve, Rosberg, Rahal, Vasser and Andretti to the new blood like Allmendinger, Fogarty, Pagenaud, Gurney, young Graham Rahal and Raphael Matos, there is no question that Formula Atlantic remains one of the world’s most formidable proving grounds for Championship winning auto racing talent in Formula 1, IndyCar, ALMS, Grand Am, NASCAR and every other top Motorsports series.
