Entergy Announces Partnership with Newman Wachs Racing

Officials from Entergy Nuclear today announced enhancements to its partnership with the Nuclear Clean Air Energy Campaign, which kicked off in April at the Cooper Tires Presents The Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda season-opening Imperial Capital Bank Atlantic Challenge of Long Beach. Entergy is the second-largest owner and operator of U.S. nuclear energy plants.

An associate sponsor for the season-opener at Long Beach, Entergy has ramped-up its commitment to the No. 34 car driven by Simona De Silvestro in an effort to put additional energy into public awareness of nuclear power and build a strong recruitment platform to fill their ever growing need for industry professionals. De Silvestro, as a brand ambassador committed to a proactive university campaign, will aid in fulfilling these goals.

At Long Beach, De Silvestro earned her first career victory in the Atlantic Championship, becoming just the second woman to win in the 34-year history of the series.

"Growing energy demands and the need for electricity that is clean and affordable make it vital that all consumers are more aware of the various options to supply that power," explained Mike Kansler, chief nuclear officer at Entergy. "We are excited to partner with Newman Wachs, a socially conscious team in a popular sports arena, to encourage the public to take a more active role as decisions and debates about America's energy future escalate."

Academy award winning actor Paul Newman and Eddie Wachs, team owners of NWR, have supported and encouraged the structure and development of nuclear energy for years. Entergy, named to Forbes 2007 list of America's Most Trustworthy Companies, is one of the first member companies to join the collaborative effort with NWR and the Nuclear Energy Institute.

"We are passionate about our partners becoming aware of the value that NWR brings to the nuclear community," states Eddie Wachs. "When Paul and I made the commitment to carry nuclear power's clean air message into the motorsports arena, this is what we were hoping for. The objective since 2005 was to aid overall public awareness and in public policy formation to promote the beneficial uses of nuclear energy. It's a long road, so where better to start than at a race track?"

Along with the goal of making the public more aware of energy resources used to produce electricity comes the use of the motorsports arena to aid recruiting efforts to college and university students about possibilities for careers of all kinds in the growing nuclear power industry.

Round 2 is next for the NWR team this weekend, when the Atlantic Championship continues on May 18 with the Monterey Festival of Speed at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
