Dusting off the dinosaurs at Indy

A reader writes, I am really scratching my head at the names being thrown around of the (totally unqualified) drivers being spoken of for Indy rides this year. Kite, Hamilton, John Andretti, and even Al Unser, Jr (who has spent far more time in rehab the last several years than in a race car). I don’t understand what qualifies these guys to be in the race. I further don't understand why any team owner would want them. It is shameful that the IRL completely fails to promote their own highly talented Indy Pro Series drivers for these spots. Former recent champions Wade Cunningham and Jay Howard should be given rides. They are young, exceptionally talented and have far more seat time and recent experience (albeit in different cars) than the names being thrown around. The IRL should be promoting them and encouraging the "one off" teams and second cars to be driven by these young drivers who have committed themselves to the Indy Series. When you balance the difference in speed versus downforce between the IPS and the Indy Cars, there cannot be that much difference. I would have far more confidence in Wade Cunningham's abilities than, say, John Andretti or Jimmy Kite. Ira Rosen
