Rumor: Penske to move museum out of Brickyard infield

Word on the street is that new Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Roger Penske has plans to move the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum out of the infield of the 2.5-mile oval, where it has existed since 1956.

The museum is simply too small to house all the history of the Speedway, which dates back to 1909. It has outgrown its useful life.

By moving the museum to a location more accessible and visible to the average ‘Joe’ on the street, will bring IndyCar new fans.

The building can be made much larger if outside the Speedway, and handle more visitors.  We also hear that the Speedway offices will co-locate in the new museum.
