F1: Leclerc to take grid penalty this weekend

Ferrari has elected to give Charles Leclerc a new engine for the United States Grand Prix, according to Italian media in an effort to wrestle 2nd place in the driver point standings from Sergio Perez.

As a result, Leclerc will drop get a grid drop of five places at theĀ United States Grand Prix, after moving on to his sixth internal combustion engine (ICE) of the season.

The team has replaced some elements to ensure that reliability problems in the power unit are solved according to Italian Motorsport.

If the test succeeds, these new elements will be introduced for their 2023 power unit.

Only Leclerc will get the upgrades for the rest of the season, meaningĀ Carlos Sainz Jr. will have to wait until next year.
