IndyCar: 500 to be blacked out in Indianapolis

–by Mark Cipolloni–

Buy a ticket if you are really a fan of the Indy 500. That is the message to central Indiana IndyCar fans. Despite removing a lot of seats to avoid embarrassment, the race no longer sells out, so the blackout is necessary.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles told the IndyStar that the plans and infrastructure are in place to black out the live broadcast of the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 to central Indiana race fans.

As it has since 1950, with a couple recent exceptions, IMS continued its ban on the traditional broadcast of the race via local NBC affiliate WTHR in 2022.

Since Tony George nearly destroyed the sport, the race no longer sells out, so the blackout is necessary.
