WEC: FIA rescinds tire blanket ban for Le Mans to avoid $millions in crash damage

Ferrari’s criticism of the ban on tire warmers in the FIA WEC has resulted in a reversal of the decision for next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans to avoid the millions of dollars in crash damage that will result without the tire blankets.

The decision made by the FIA and race organizer the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, which jointly formulate the rules for the WEC, covers only the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It has resulted from an “in-depth evaluation of tire usage data together with the WEC’s exclusive tire suppliers, Michelin and Goodyear”, according to a statement issued by the ACO on Thursday.

“The exemption is limited to the Le Mans only, ensuring that drivers of all experience levels will be able to compete in the safest possible environment regardless of track conditions and temperatures,” it continued.

This will allow a period in which “tire manufacturers, teams and drivers will gain valuable time to develop better understanding of how to bring cold tires up to temperature ahead of the remainder of the 2023 WEC season” to make the tree-huggers happy.

Global Warming is all About Job Security

Devastating data for the climate narrative:

Carbon-14 dating shows only 12% of atmospheric CO2 added since 1750 is man-made.

‘Much too low to be the cause of global warming.’
