F1 Rumor: Aston Martin poaches Ferrari’s Tech. Director Cardile (Update)

This rumor is upgraded to ‘fact’ today. Ferrari has confirmed Enrico Cardile has left the Italian team “with immediate effect”.

The Scuderia has also said that team principal Frederic Vasseur will oversee the Chassis Area of the team.

Cardile was a technical director at the Maranello-based outfit, but has been closely linked with a move to Aston Martin – although any future plans for the Italian Aerodynamicist has yet to be revealed.

A short statement issued by the team said: “Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that Enrico Cardile is leaving the company, therefore relinquishing his role as Technical Director Chassis Area.

“After almost two decades with Ferrari, Cardile has handed in his notice and therefore, with immediate effect, and as an interim measure, the Chassis Area will be overseen by the Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur.

“Everyone at Scuderia Ferrari HP thanks Enrico for all his hard work over so many years.”

49-year-old Enrico Cardile could join Aston Martin before the end of the year, depending on the length of his gardening leave.

Formu1a.uno has reported Cardile will depart for Aston Martin later this year, with Ferrari filling the void left as Loic Serra is reportedly set to take over Cardile’s duties in charge of the development of the Ferrari chassis.

Serra will apparently oversee the development of the 2025 Ferrari, and lead the team’s efforts into the new 2026 regulations, according to the report, with Serra already confirmed as being Ferrari-bound to begin work at Maranello on October 1st.

As Ferrari confirmed last month, Serra is set to oversee trackside engineering, aero development, and operations, as well as vehicle performance.

This could also open up the rumored move of Adrian Newey to Ferrari as their new Technical Director, or similar title.
