Formula 1 News: Who will replace Aston Martin’s Stroll in Montreal?
Canadian Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll missed out on the Spanish Grand Prix due to medical reasons. It was later revealed that his previous wrist injury had worsened, requiring surgery.
Mike Krack, chief trackside officer at Aston Martin, told reporters that “plan A is to have Lance in the car.”
However, if Stroll cannot be ready for next weekend’s Canadian GP in Montreal, who can replace him?
- Reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne – he is tied up with Peugeot’s Le Mans for the 24 Hours of Le Mans
- Reserve driver Felipe Drugovich – he is tied up with Cadillac for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but said he could forego Le Mans
- Young F2 driver Jak Crawford – but he only has 27 Super License Points and he needs at least 30 to qualify for an F1 license
- F1 Academy driver Tina Hausmann – Not qualified to ever drive an F1 car
Hence, Drugovich appears to be the likely choice, but Aston Martin has a couple of other options of available drivers on standby with other teams:
- Valtteri Bottas
- Sergio Perez
- Jack Doohan
