IndyCar News: Sunday Morning Report from Borchetta Bourbon MSGP

Good morning from Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, TN, where the final race of the NTT INDYCAR Series will take place this afternoon at 1:45 p.m.  We will have perfect weather today, with sunshine and temperatures in the mid-80s.

In the final practice session yesterday, Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel hit the wall in Turn 2 and did significant damage to his right rear.  As a result of the damage, his engine was damaged.  Therefore, the No. 6 entry will incur a nine-spot grid penalty for an unapproved engine change.

The tire strategy is different this weekend since Firestone has created an alternate (red) tire for the oval.  The rule during the race is that each driver has to run one set of primary (black) tires and two sets of the alternative tires.

Notably, all drivers except Alexander Rossi and Rinus Veekay will start the race on the harder primary tires.  The alternate tire is softer and will make for more pit stops or force the driver to hang on to degrading tires.
