MotoGP News: Alex Marquez Dominates at Jerez for Back-to-Back Victory

Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez (pictured) delivered a masterclass performance to win the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, claiming his fourth career MotoGP victory and his second consecutive win at the iconic Jerez circuit. Starting from fifth on the grid, the #73 rider took the lead on lap 2 and controlled the race from there, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of the field.

Race Summary and Key Moments

Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) started from pole position and led into Turn 1, but the Marquez brothers’ battle was short-lived. Alex quickly moved past championship leader Marco Bezzecchi and overtook his older brother at Turn 6 on lap 2 to seize the lead. Moments later, Marc crashed at Turn 11 while trying to keep pace, tumbling through the gravel and ending his race early in a Major blow to his title hopes.

Alex Marquez was untouchable after that. By mid-race, he had built a two-second advantage and cruised to the checkered flag, even taking time on the final lap to wave to the home crowd. It marked Ducati’s first premier-class win of the 2026 season (via the satellite Gresini team) and ended Aprilia’s five-race winning streak.

Behind him, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) recovered from an early challenge to secure second place (+1.903s). Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) completed the podium in third after a strong run on the Ducati GP26. Jorge Martin (Aprilia) finished fourth, with Trackhouse Aprilia duo Ai Ogura and Raúl Fernandez rounding out the top six.

The factory Ducati squad endured a nightmare afternoon: alongside Marc’s crash, Francesco Bagnaia retired on lap 13 with a loss of power. It was the ninth consecutive race without a factory Ducati on the podium.

Post-Race Notes

– Alex Marquez: “There’s Magic in Jerez.” The win was a huge morale boost after a tough start to 2026 and came exactly six months after his previous victory in Malaysia.
– Marco Bezzecchi: Settled for second but Maintained his championship lead despite the streak ending.
– Notable PerforMances: Johann Zarco was the top Honda rider in seventh; Enea Bastianini led the KTM charge in eighth. Yamaha scored points with Quartararo in 14th.

Note on the Sprint: Marc Marquez had won Saturday’s Tissot Sprint in dramatic fashion after a bizarre crash near pitlane and a bike swap in changing conditions.

This result tightens the 2026 title fight, with Aprilia still strong but Ducati (especially the satellite bikes) showing renewed pace on European soil. The championship now heads to the next round with Bezzecchi still in front, but momentum clearly shifting toward the Marquez camp at home.
