IndyCar News: Grid Penalties for Snap-On Milwaukee 250

Grid penalties were announced for tomorrow’s race for Scott Dixon, driver of the No 9 PNC Bank Honda (pictured above), Kyffin Simpson, driver of the No 8 Journie Rewards Honda and Louis Foster, driver of the No 45 Droplight Honda.

The penalty will affect Scott Dixon the most since he qualified fifth and will have to start 14th now.  The Kiwi has changed many engines this season and felt he should get a free one after replacing the seventh engine.

************************************************************************************************INDYCAR has announced a nine-position starting grid penalty for the entries of Nos. 8 and 9 of Chip Ganassi Racing for unscheduled engine changes beyond the entry’s season allotment following Tuesday’s team test at Nashville Superspeedway.

INDYCAR also announced a nine-position starting grid penalty for the entry of No. 45 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for an unscheduled engine change beyond the entry’s season allotment following today’s practice at the Milwaukee Mile.

The entries were in violation of:

Rule 16.1.2.3.2. A fifth (5th) Engine is eligible to earn Engine Manufacturer points if a Full Season Entrant has completed the Full Season Entrant Engine Mileage with its first four (4) Engines. Otherwise, a fifth (5th) or more Engine does not earn Engine Manufacturer points and will be considered an Unapproved Engine change-out.

According to Rule 16.1.6.1.2, the penalty is a six-position starting grid penalty on road and street course events and nine positions at oval events and will be served at the series’ next event, which is the Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 on Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Milwaukee Mile.
