Marc Marquez wins dramatic Hungary Sprint Race

MotoGP News : Marquez wins dramatic Hungary Sprint Race

Marc Marquez (pictured) continued his dominant 2025 MotoGP season, clinching his 13th Tissot Sprint victory in 14 rounds at Balaton Park, navigating early chaos to extend his remarkable winning streak.

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing) finished second, two seconds back, with teammate Franco Morbidelli rounding out the podium in third.

Turn 1 Chaos

Marquez launched perfectly from pole to lead into Turn 1, but drama erupted behind him. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), starting sixth, misjudged his braking on the inside line and collided with Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3). Bastianini stayed upright, but Quartararo crashed, also slowing Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), who dropped to the back of the top 10. Bastianini fell to 18th.

More Lap 1 Trouble

The drama continued at Turn 9, where Bastianini’s bold move on Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) went wrong, sending both riders crashing out of the Sprint on Lap 1. Post-race, penalties were issued: Quartararo received a single Long Lap penalty for his first offense, while Bastianini, as a repeat offender, was handed a double Long Lap penalty.

Marquez Pulls Away, Acosta Crashes

With the early incidents behind him, Marquez led comfortably, followed by the VR46 duo of Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli. By Lap 5, Di Giannantonio trailed Marquez by 1.1 seconds, with Morbidelli another second back. Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) held fourth, just ahead of Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), who was a half-second clear of Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol).

On Lap 6 of 13, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Friday’s fastest rider, crashed at Turn 11 while battling Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) for 10th, ending his Sprint hopes.

Marquez cruised unchallenged for the remainder of the race, securing another victory. Di Giannantonio held off Morbidelli to claim second, giving VR46 a double podium at Balaton Park.

Sprint Points Scorers

Marini, starting ninth, delivered a stellar performance to fend off Aldeguer and secure fourth—his best Sprint result with Honda. Aldeguer took fifth, just ahead of Mir and a recovering Bezzecchi in seventh. Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) crossed the line eighth, facing a three-place grid penalty for Sunday’s Grand Prix. Reigning champion Martin grabbed the final point in ninth.

Looking Ahead

Marquez remains unstoppable, but with 26 laps looming in Sunday’s Grand Prix at Balaton Park, can anyone challenge the championship leader? The stage is set for another thrilling showdown.
