UPDATE Williams Formula 1 team driver George Russell will miss second Azerbaijan Grand Prix practice because his practice one collision with a loose manhole cover cracked his chassis.

04/26/19 George Russell ran over a loose drain cover and severely damaged his Williams in Free Practice 1 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that brought out a red flag after 12 minutes as track repairs were needed.

With Ferrariā€™s Charles Leclerc having appeared to dislodge the drain cover after driving his SF90 over it, Russell then ran over the raised metal cover himself, causing a shower of debris to dramatically fly off his Williams FW42 before he quickly brought the car to a stop.

Race officials quickly made the decision to suspend the session as track repairs were carried out, with none of the runners managing any meaningful laps before the red flags were flown.
