Hamilton win was in doubt – report

(GMM) According to a Spanish newspaper, Lewis Hamilton's crucial Japanese grand prix win was for seven hours in doubt on Sunday evening.

'Marca' claims that stewards at Fuji Speedway deliberated for seven hours and well into nightfall before officializing the result, after investigating the British rookie's "dangerous braking maneuvers" while he led the field behind the safety car.

Sebastian Vettel, penalized ten grid places for the upcoming Shanghai round for crashing into Mark Webber, had in a meeting with the stewards blamed Hamilton for the incident.

"I saw Lewis going really slowly, I don't know why, but I thought he had a problem. By the time I looked forward again, I was already in the back of Mark's car and I think he had also reacted to Lewis," the German rookie had told the press.

'Marca' said Hamilton was also summoned to the stewards' room, but no penalty was ultimately applied.
