Honda may have to bail ‘B’ team out

(GMM) The Super Aguri team has struck financial trouble, according to reports from the paddock of the Hungarian grand prix.

It is suggested that the Honda-powered team, that is named after its team principal and former grand prix driver Aguri Suzuki, has now stopped its development programmes and trimmed the traveling race team to save money in the midst of the 2007 season.

Asked about the progress of his Leafield based outfit this weekend, Suzuki said "it depends on the budget".

"I am trying very hard and my staff is working very hard as well and just now I am making plans for next year," he said.

"Of course, the team has to grow. It's very difficult to say how much it has grown but everyone has been working very hard."

Suzuki said: "Formula one is very difficult and we are a very small team."

The German website motorsport-total.com said one of Super Aguri's main sponsors failed to pay a substantial due payment in July, leaving the team in a precarious situation eleven races into this season.

Aguri's team manager Daniele Audetto confirmed the story.

"We are saving where we can and hoping that we profit financially from the four points that we have scored this year," he said.

Only the top ten teams receive prize-money each season, and Super Aguri is currently eighth, ahead of Honda, Spyker and Toro Rosso.
