Klien eyes two teams for 2008

UPDATE (GMM) With Honda's works lineup now locked out, Super Aguri could become an option for Christian Klien in 2008. When Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button were confirmed for next year, Honda boss Nick Fry stopped short of also naming current test driver Klien, 24, for another season.

The Austrian is hoping to link up in the race role with Spyker, who have sacked Christijan Albers for late sponsor payments.

Klien said of his relationship with Japanese manufacturer Honda: "I have a contract until the end of the season with them and an option for next year, but it has not been taken up yet."

Asked by motorline.cc about Honda-powered Super Aguri, he admitted: "Everything is open, however (Takuma) Sato is fixed (for 2008)." Anthony Davidson is currently Sato's teammate at the Leafield based team.

Spyker technical chief Mike Gascoyne, meanwhile, does not hide his desire to put Klien in the second orange car alongside Adrian Sutil for the balance of the 2007 season.

"There is of course the financial consideration, but I definitely regard Christian as the best of the drivers we have to choose from," he said.

07/19/07 (GMM) While racers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello have retained their race seats, Honda on Thursday did not confirm current test and reserve Christian Klien for the 2008 season.

Team principal Nick Fry explained at the Nurburgring that the delay relates to the Austrian's talks with Spyker about a race seat.

"We are waiting to see what happens with Spyker, who have shown some interest in Christian," said the Briton.

Klien, 24, is among the favorites to become Christijan Albers' full time replacement at the Dutch squad for the balance of 2007.

Fry, meanwhile, suggested that next year at the Silverstone squad is also an option for the former Jaguar and Red Bull racer.

"We won't be standing in Christian's way," he vowed.

Klien, who tested the orange liveried car at Spa-Francorchamps last week, agreed that he stands a chance with Silverstone based Spyker.

"It was a very interesting test and obviously there's maybe a chance to do some racing for them this year," he said.

As for next season, Klien added: "It's all very open."
