Ralf has ‘options’ for 2008 grid?

(GMM) Ralf Schumacher insists that his future on the formula one grid is not looking too grim.

"I have more alternatives than many people believe," the Toyota driver is quoted as saying by the specialist German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

Schumacher, 32, has had a disappointing first half of the season in 2007, and Toyota has not yet taken up its option on the remainder of his contract.

But he performed much more strongly last time out at Silverstone, and denies that he has simply found a higher gear now that his future appears in doubt.

"That's rubbish," Ralf says of the suggestion.

"We looked better in Magny Cours and Silverstone simply because those sorts of circuits suit our car better."

But Toyota, apparently, is not his only option for 2008. As well as mentioning Honda and Renault, Auto Motor und Sport quotes Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger as saying that Ralf has "more than enough experience. And experience would do our team some good".

"All you need with Ralf is to motivate him," Berger added.

The magazine, meanwhile, asked Schumacher if he really counts reigning world champion team Renault as a genuine option for 2008.

"There are a few people there who are against me," he acknowledged, "but all that really matters is whether the decision-makers have a positive opinion about me."
