FIA out to stop cheating Red Bull team

UPDATE According to a report on Autosport.com, Up until now, the FIA has checked the rear wings with a pull-back test, where a 500 Newton force is applied horizontally across the wing span to ensure it does not deflect more than 5 millimeters.

But from the Canadian GP onward, the FIA will also apply a vertical load of 500 Newtons to each side of the rear wing – and it will be stricter than ever on how much the wing can deflect.

Although most deflection tests have currently allowed a tolerance of 5mm, Whiting has told the teams that the FIA will allow just two millimeters of movement on the rear wings from now on.

05/23/07 (GMM) F1's governing body will respond to the saga involving Red Bull's bendy Barcelona rear wing by further intensifying the static scrutineering tests, according to a report on Wednesday.

The specialist publication Auto Motor und Sport claims that, after viewing the footage from David Coulthard's rearward-facing camera in Spain, the FIA's Charlie Whiting is concerned that the wing of the RB3 is indeed flexing illegally.

A new static test, requiring the development of bespoke equipment, is being devised for the upcoming Canadian grand prix, and for the time being Whiting has apparently ordered that both Coulthard and teammate Mark Webber's cars be again fitted with the rearward-facing onboard cameras in Monaco this weekend.
