St. Pete race in downward spiral

It seems the IRL St. Petersburg race may not have much more of a future. The photos below show the reduced number of grandstands between 2005 and 2006.

Now comes word in this year's ticket renewal form to their fans that even more grandstands may be removed in 2007. The letter to its fans read, "We are sending you this letter since our records reflect that you purchased reserved tickets last year in either Grandstand #23 or #24. Due to various issues, including those involving the proposed construction of the new park along the waterfront of St. Petersburg next to the Albert Whitted airport, we may not have Grandstands #23 or #24 available for the 2007 event. At this time, there has been no final decision and we are looking at several options, including offering Grandstands #23 and #24 as general admission seating if they are eventually constructed for the event. If you desire to renew your purchase of a reserved seat for the 2007 event, your only option at this time is to purchase seats in Grandstands #1-7 or #10. Please contact our Ticket Office at (727) 898.INDY ext. 225. All renewals made by December 31, 2006 will be available to receive a free IndyCar Series Paddock Pass."
