Jani likely to leave Toro Rosso

(GMM) Neel Jani is likely to fall out of the official Toro Rosso lineup at the end of 2006.

The Red Bull junior team's co-owner, Gerhard Berger, was quoted as saying by motorline.cc that the young Swiss will 'probably not have a place' at STR next year.

''We want to continue with our two primary drivers,'' he explained, referring to Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed, and the fact that in 2007 it is likely that any test driver can be used by a team on test-day Fridays.

Asked if 22-year-old Jani, Toro Rosso's official 'Friday' driver, could be absorbed back into the Red Bull family, Berger replied that he did not know.

The veteran Austrian also revealed that Toro Rosso will either be powered by Cosworth, Renault or Ferrari next year, and that the 2007 car will be a bespoke model.

Berger said: ''We are going to build our own car, this has already begun, and in two or three weeks at the latest we will know which engine will be used.''
