Mears to replace Vickers at Hendrick

06/09/06 Though not set in stone, Casey Mears said Friday an opportunity drive for Hendrick Motorsports next season was "very, very appealing."

The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com reported Thursday night that Mears had informed team owner Chip Ganassi he would not return to the No. 42 Dodges next season. Mears confirmed his decision Friday at Pocono Raceway and left little doubt where he would like to end up.

"It's not the easiest thing to decide. I've been with Chip and Felix (Sabates) for a long time and I've developed a lot of friendships. A lot of great people work for the organization," Mears said.

"The decision to do something different isn't based off anything negative about the organization. It's about a lot of things that are positives that are out there. Nothing is set in stone. We still have a lot of work to do." More at ThatsRacin.com
