Renault could quit F1 – Berger

(GMMf1NET) Renault's latest stint in formula one is probably coming to an end.

That's the opinion of F1 veteran and grand prix winner Gerhard Berger, who wondered – to the Austrian 'ORF' TV network – why a world champion would leave his title winning team.

''It could very well mean that he knows that Renault do not have long term plans for formula one,'' Berger told 'Sport am Sonntag'.

46-year-old Berger, whose F1 employers included McLaren and Ferrari, also wondered whether Alonso's McLaren switch for 2007 indicates that Kimi Raikkonen is off to Italy.

''Perhaps Raikkonen has told Ron Dennis, 'That's it, I will not be with you in 2007, I will be somewhere else','' Gerhard Berger mused.
