Schu’s last F1 birthday?

(GMMf1NET) Willi Weber has paid tribute to birthday boy Michael Schumacher by writing an article in Germany's 'Bild' newspaper.

The seven time world champion's long time manager also said in his congratulatory message that 'everyone wants to know' whether Schumacher's 37th birthday will turn out to be his last as a F1 pilot.

''Here is the truth,'' German born Weber wrote. ''We don't know.''

He said to Schumacher: ''But for our friendship it is irrelevant whether you are still winning titles when you are 50 or not. You and I — that's more than a contract.

''It is wonderful to have people like you around.''

In Germany, Ferrari-driver Schumacher is an indubitable hero. But in the English-speaking world, a constant argument has raged about his exceptional talent versus the stereotype as an emotionless, ruthless robot.

In 1994 and 1997, Michael did his image no favors in controversial title-deciding clashes with Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. In more recent times, he has faced criticism for cutting across the grid at the start of a race, and last year was reportedly made to apologize by rival drivers after a collision with Nick Heidfeld.

''I am what I am,'' Schumacher told England's Independent newspaper. ''Some people understand me well, some less. ''The only thing to regret about this is that some don't even try.''
