Hockenheim could be renamed – report

As it grapples to survive on the F1 calendar, grand prix circuit Hockenheim could be renamed.

'Focus' magazine suggests that the track's exclusive naming rights could be exchanged for the approximately $2m a-year budget deficit that presently endangers the German GP.

Hockenheim official Harald Roth, moreover, is quoted as saying that the circuit might even give up some of its shares if a partner could be found to help save the embattled event.

Elsewhere, it is even suggested that multiple world champion and German Michael Schumacher could have been kindly invited to dip into his deep pockets.

Hockenheim first hosted F1 in 1970, and Schumacher has won his home grand prix three times — most recently '04.
