Is Ganassi still eyeing Champ Car?

UPDATE AutoRacing1.com sources tell us that Chip Ganassi, along with NASCAR's Bill France Jr., Brian France, Jim France, and the top Grand-Am brass were at the dinner with people like Carlos Slim (father and son) so it appears as though this dinner was to further the relationship between NASCAR, Grand-Am and the Mexicans, and not much to do with Champ Car. This rumor is downgraded to 'false.' Chip's not coming to Champ Car, at least not in 2006. More telling perhaps is the fact this meeting took place in Mexico City on Champ Car's biggest race weekend. Our Mexican contacts tell us Carlos Slim Domit (the son) is a real pro-stock car guy, but that does not mean he doesn't like Champ Car. 11/04/05 Despite rumors to the contrary, it's interesting to see Chip Ganassi talking to many Champ Car folks here in Mexico City. On top of that we hear that Chip is having dinner tonight with some very important Mexican businessmen who want to do something in Champ Car as early as next year. Hmmm……Mark C.
