Argentina in F1 bid, and what of Champ Car?

UPDATE With 19 races already on the F1 schedule and rumors suggesting that there could be 20 rounds next year, the fight to get a race on the calendar is a tough one. Argentina, Russia, India and South Africa all have hopes of hosting a round of the F1 Championship in the next few years.

Meanwhile, Champ Car was eyeing both Argentina and South Africa as well. It will be interesting to see if Champ Car tries to land the countries that don't get an F1 race. Champ Car is also trying to get back to Brazil. Of the above countries, which one makes most sense for Champ Car? India without a doubt. With races in China, Japan, and South Korea by 2007, India would be a strategic Pacific Rim race for Champ Car. India is poised to be the 'next China' and the USA has a huge Indian population. With that said, we suspect Bernie Ecclestone, will land India for F1 because he too recognizes that India is poised to be the next China.

10/26/05 Argentina is bidding for a surprise return to the F1 calendar. While Buenos Aires hosted the last grand prix in the country eight years ago, the San Luis province has requested a meeting with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, the local 'Clarin' newspaper said.

''We haven't had any replies yet but we're optimistic,'' provincial secretary of sports, Eduardo Arce, revealed.

A track called 'Rosendo Hernandez', which is 4.612kms in length, is undergoing renovations, the newspaper said.
