Bourdais wants to jump to F1 in 2007

Two-time Champ Car title winner Sebastien Bourdais has called on Renault to give him a chance to prove himself in Formula One.

He was missed out on a grand prix drive after winning the Formula 3000 title in 2002 when Arrows, who had offered him a deal, went bankrupt, while his refusal to sign a management contract with Renault chief Flavio Briatore hurt his chances there.

Fernando Alonso helped Renault to both world titles this year and Sebastien Bourdais (who once tested for Renault, did well, but never got called back), 26, said: "Would I have been to be able achieve that? I have no idea, I have never been handed the chance.

"All I can ask for right now is to try and start the relationship in 2006 with the team, try to test a few times, which is going to be added to my [Champ Car] contract, and to start in 2007.

"So far nothing really happened and all I can say is I am pretty successful and happy in Champ Cars, and there's not much I can do about not being handed an opportunity in Formula One. So we'll see what the future comes up with.

"In 2007 obviously it will probably be my last chance to make it to Formula One and I'd very much like to make the jump."
