Stars and moon alignment needed for IRL return

California Speedway President Gillian Zucker wants an open wheel race back at her track, but the IRL looks doubtful after another horrendous turnout last Sunday.

"We are big fans of open-wheel racing and the door is open for the Indy Racing League to have conversations with us to come back to California Speedway, but in my mind, it's a business decision," Zucker said. "We need to look at what the sponsorship landscape is at that time. With Toyota leaving the IRL and with them being our entitlement partner, we need to have someone strongly committed to the speedway and the sport in terms of promotion, entertainment and hospitality. If the stars and moon align, we'd love to have them back."
