Silver Crown team owners form breakaway series

Race cars used in USAC Silver Crown Series pavement racing will have a place to compete at least for the next three seasons, National Speed Sport News reports.

A group of car owners that elected not to move forward with the new-generation Silver Crown machines have formed the National Championshipcar Series to race on asphalt ovals beginning next season.

A general membership meeting has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Brickyard Crossing Hotel in Speedway, Ind. Car owners from five states met Oct. 15 at New York's Oswego Speedway to create a steering committee and formulate a business plan for the 2006, '07 and '08 seasons. The NCS has vowed not to schedule events that conflict with the USAC slate. It will race on asphalt tracks between a half mile and one mile in length.
