Is the IRL ’Circling the Drain’?

From the Indy Star:
Question: The new schedule for the IRL is depressing. It looks like the IRL is slowly circling the drain. Hasn't the IRL just become a feeder series for F1 and NASCAR? (Joe from Avon, Ind.)

Answer: First of all, I love the phrase "circling the drain." My best friend uses it frequently. Secondly, I agree with you. Sad, but true.

Question: Any truth to the rumors that the ol' Chipster is going to drag his team back to the Champ Car series? Do you see any teams making the switch to Champ Car? (Barry from Richmond, Va.)

Answer: Chip Ganassi continues to deny that he's leaving the IRL. But he hasn't denied that he's interested in participating in selected Champ Car races that benefit his sponsor, Target, which isn't exactly thrilled with the future (or present) of open-wheel racing. I'd say this is an appeasement, and a good one.
