‘Breakaway still on track’

Renault's F1 president Patrick Faure has denied that the 'breakaway' (GPMA) alliance is on the verge of collapse.

Contrary to speculation that Williams and Toyota could be about to sign Bernie Ecclestone's 2008 Concorde Agreement, the Frenchman said the team-carmaker group 'will launch our championship' if negotiations with the F1 supremo and the FIA do not bear fruit.

''I think we will reasonably hold firm,'' Faure told Autosport.

The alliance of teams and carmakers will meet in Munich (Germany) on Wednesday, but some are billing the summit as a 'put up or shut-up' moment after detail about the threatened '08 series remained scarce.

Faure said talks about rules were progressing with the FIA, but the 'GPMA' is still unable to find a commercial compromise with Bernie Ecclestone.

Patrick Faure explained: ''We will keep on discussing and there is nothing decided yet.''
