Champ Car and IRL agree to 6 joint races

UPDATE #2 Now Fan 590 Radio, who started this rumor, is backpedaling, so we are close to downgrading it to 'false.' Realistically, this does not make sense until 2007 when everyone could have the same equipment. We say could, because no deals are done yet. 05/30/05 Word is that Cosworth is involved in the negotiations, serving both Chevy and Ford. We hear Chevy may agree to stay in Open Wheel Racing if there is to be a unification. If not, they are gone as previously announced. If Chevy and Ford are in then Honda will be happy. Would it be enough to entice Toyota to stay too? All have 2.65 liter turbo engines on the shelf. As we have previously stated, it would not be hard for Honda and Toyota to detune theirs to get the 1200 or so miles between rebuilds the Cosworth now gets. This is all doable for 2006. 05/30/05 The FAN 590 radio show in Toronto is saying there is a tentative deal in place to run these six Champ Car/IRL races jointly, possibly as early as 2006:
Long Beach
Indy 500
Toronto
Mexico City
Chicagoland
Dallas (Texas Motor Speedway?)

What engines would they use? Would there be an equivalency formula for 2006 with all new equipment for 2007? Would Toyota and Honda break out their Champ Car 2.65 L turbo engines for these 6 races? Is this why we heard rumors Honda had their Champ Car turbo running on a dyno? Stay tuned…..
