Childress and Hendrick reiterate GM loyalty
Car owner Richard Childress says he's had talks with other manufacturers but remains committed to Chevrolet, a brand he's won all six of his Sprint Cup championships with and 11 titles in NASCAR's three national series.
"I go back to 1985 when RCR didn't have nothing and Chevrolet and General Motors stepped in," Childress said Thursday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "I'm just trying to be as loyal, and I will be as loyal as I can with General Motors.
"Who knows what is in the future, but right now, no, I don't see anything changing with RCR, but we have talked to the manufacturers … we're still here with Chevy and proud to be with General Motors."
Asked on "The Morning Drive" about the possibility of aligning with the Hendrick engine program, Childress said: "Not really. We built a great operation down here. I wouldn't say it's impossible, but right now, ECR, we're doing a lot of work.
"I see us on the same level as the Hendrick group when it comes to customers and working and making things happen, but you never know, if it's the right business opportunity, all of us have to look at what we're going to do. We're really happy and pleased with where we're at, and I'm sure Rick Hendrick is the same with his operation."
Hendrick Motorsports reiterated its support for Chevrolet and its commitment to help SHR win NASCAR races in 2016.
"Hendrick Motorsports is entering its 33rd NASCAR season carrying the Chevrolet bowtie on our cars. We've never raced with anyone else," team owner Rick Hendrick said in a statement.
"Representing the most successful manufacturer in NASCAR history is something our entire organization takes immense pride in, and we look forward to working together with Chevy toward a historic 40th manufacturers' championship in 2016.
"It's a relationship we hope to continue for many years to come."
We will continue to provide SHR's teams with engines and chassis in 2016, and those programs will be supported appropriately. Rick Hendrick
