IMSA Makes Changes to Team Championship Points System
IMSA released a competition bulletin last week outlining clarifications to team championship points, which now sees each competitor scored individually by car number instead of per team.
Previously, the top-placing car from each team would score team points, a system which had been in place in the American Le Mans Series. GRAND-AM, however, ranked each car separately.
The points structure for drivers, as announced prior to the start of the season, remains unchanged.
However, clarifications have also been made in the eligibility of starting points, which is awarded to each nominated driver, no matter if they finish the race or complete the minimum drive time requirements. Drivers are awarded a single point as a result.
IMSA, meanwhile, has issued the official results and points standings from Daytona, which reflects the modifications made to the rulebook.
