Alonso: New F1 cars are indeed ugly

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has lamented the state of the 2014 F1 cars, saying they are "indeed ugly" and is proving to be a big detraction for the sport.

Changes in the regulations have resulted in plenty of new designs on the F1 grid this season with the noses attracting a lot attention for all the wrong reasons.

The front of the Ferrari's F14 T has been described as a vacuum cleaner while Toro Rosso's STR9 "finger-style nose" has also left a lot of people scratching their heads.

"They are uglier," he said in an interview with CNN. "I think we have to be honest with our fans and ourselves first of all. They are not good enough because people look to Formula One for excellence of motorsport, of aerodynamics, excellence of performance and technology. And when you see those front parts of the car, it doesn't look like all the things I said.

"I think we will find different solutions. The engineers are clever enough to make the car fast and also beautiful."
