Logano’s car fails postrace inspection

Joey Logano celebrated a victory Saturday—his fourth consecutive triumph in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Dover International Speedway—but his win was slightly tainted by the front of his Penske Racing car being too low in postrace inspection.

NASCAR typically issues a six-point penalty for such a violation and does not change the finishing order, i.e. cheaters prosper in NASCAR. Only under extreme circumstances does it strip a win from a driver for what would need to be a much more egregious technical violations.

With Logano not earning points in the Nationwide Series, any penalty would not impact the drivers championship.

It would impact the owners points race, where the Penske Racing No. 22 team (which has earned 11 wins this year with Logano, Brad Keselowski, AJ Allmendinger and Ryan Blaney) has a 34-point lead in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 54 team. A six-point penalty would cut that to 28 points with five races left in the Nationwide season.

Logano led 106 laps on his way to the win Saturday.
