Nelson Piquet Jr. kicked Brian Scott as the two argued following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Friday at Richmond International Raceway. Scott went over to Piquet following the race and only shouted a few words before Piquet shoved him away. When Scott came back toward Piquet, Piquet then kicked him back and hit him in the groin area.

"I went to talk to him," Scott said. "I was a little heated, and then he kicks me right below the belt, which I think is a below-the-belt type shot. … That just shows his character."

Piquet, who will not face any penalties, apologized for kicking him.

"When you get a temper at the end of the race, everybody is tired and frustrated and you do things you don’t mean, too," Piquet said.

"The intention wasn’t to do that. It was just to keep him away from me because I didn’t want to start a fight. He came running at me yelling. It was kind of a first reaction to defend myself. It wasn’t meant to hit him where it ended up."

Richard Childress Racing’s Scott and Turner Scott Motorsports’ Piquet were battling for 14th when they traded paint late in the race. Scott wound up 20th.

The two crews, pitted next to each other, nearly brawled after the race while their drivers were bumping each other after the race in their cars.

Piquet said their feud stems from a truck race at Martinsville. Scott said it was a long time brewing.

"He’s got an issue with me from I don’t know when," Scott said. "He runs into me every week and I’ve kind of had it. … He could have easily passed me clean.

"We have a history. He doesn’t like me for whatever reason. He chose to move me."
