Car Body Lands In Spectator Area at zMax

Several spectators were injured after a fiberglass car body from a Funny Car flew off and landed in a spectator area during Saturday's qualifying session for Sunday's Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway.

During the session, the body from Robert Hight's Ford Mustang flew off after the car suffered an engine failure. The fiberglass body – which weighs about a hundred pounds – broke into several pieces and landed in a spectator area.

Initial reports from track officials are that at least two fans were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. Qualifying resumed after a 20-minute delay to clean up the debris. Pete McCole reporting from zMax
