Reigning FIA Formula Two Champion Dean Stoneman enjoyed a guided tour of the redevelopment work being carried out at Snetterton, after visiting the Norfolk circuit with MSV chief executive Jonathan Palmer last Friday (28 January).

In a welcome break from his ongoing treatment, Dean was collected from his Hampshire home and flown up via helicopter by Jonathan Palmer, who then gave Dean a tour of the new Snetterton 300 layout. Dean also got the chance to sample the recently-laid surface in a BMW X6 road car.

20-year-old Stoneman, who clinched the 2010 F2 title before impressing in his prize test with the Williams Formula One team, was impressed with the progress of developments. "It was great to have the opportunity to see the new Snetterton circuit layout," he said.

"They have included some superb medium and fast corners, and Russell in particular now looks very interesting and challenging! I now can't wait to try it for size in a race car as soon as I'm able to."

From Snetterton, Jonathan then flew Dean up to Bedford Autodrome to see his friends at Formula Two's base of operations. "It was really good to see some familiar faces from last year," Dean reflected, "and I want to thank them for all the kind words and support they showed me. I would also like to thank JP for his kind invitation."

Jonathan Palmer admitted he had been delighted to guide Dean around the new Snetterton circuit, saying: "When I spoke to Dean last week he was keen to see the new Snetterton circuit, and it was a pleasure to fly him up to the track. He was in good spirits and in fact I think he was surprised at just how quickly progress is being made. I must say Dean's ability to read the new corners was particularly impressive – even as we were flying in he was starting to work out which was a brake and a lift, and the gears, and as we drove around Dean made some valuable comments to help with final curb layouts. I'm looking forward to him coming back up with me when it's complete to drive it properly."

Dean continues to make good progress with his chemotherapy treatment.
