Force India to try blown diffuser in Hungary

Force India have confirmed that, for the first time this year, they will be running a blown diffuser on their car on Friday in Hungary. Pioneered by Red Bull, such a component allows hot exhaust gases to exit the car lower down and therefore contribute to higher levels of rear downforce.

With McLaren having first raced the rear wing-stalling f-duct and Red Bull the exhaust-blown diffuser, all other teams have been striving to develop similar systems for their own cars.

“We can be confident that we have enough strength in current performance and the new developments coming," Team Principal and Chairman Vijay Mallya said on Wednesday.

“On Friday we will test the blown diffuser, which we believe will give us a big step forward. We will analyze the findings and any data will be fed back into the program for the second half of the year. Similarly, we have some new developments on the front of the floor.

“This year we have a much more balanced car over all types of tracks and, while we would look forward to Spa and Monza as high-speed tracks that should suit us better, I think we will hold our own in Hungary."
