Sebastien Loeb wants Bourdais’ F1 seat
Loeb, the multiple world rally champion, threw his name into the hat amid unconfirmed speculation his fellow Frenchman Bourdais might be ousted after Sunday's German grand prix.
An irritated Bourdais, 30, said after qualifying last at the Nurburgring: "He wants to race in F1, that's normal, it's his right. But that's not how you do it."
07/11/09 (GMM) Multiple world rally champion Sebastien Loeb has thrown his name into the hat as a potential candidate for French countryman Sebastien Bourdais' endangered Toro Rosso seat.
The 35-year-old, who currently drives for Citroen in the WRC and is second in the 2009 standings, told France's L'Equipe sports daily on Saturday that he would jump at the chance to immediately try his hand at the FIA's other premier series.
L'Equipe said Loeb spent several hours at Red Bull's Milton-Keynes headquarters some weeks ago.
"If Toro Rosso need a driver I'd love to help out," he insisted.
"I've heard talk of this possibility for Sebastien Bourdais. I'd race instead of him," he added, following rumors 30-year-old Bourdais will be ousted after Sunday's German grand prix.
Loeb, however, who has tested for the F1 team Red Bull, indicated that any appearance in Bourdais' cockpit might not be a prelude to a full-time grand prix foray.
"Who knows, as long as the formula one and rallying calendars don't overlap anything is possible. If there is a place at Toro Rosso I'm available," he said.
