Heidfeld launches unique helmet design competition for fans

As of today, motorsport and design fans can visit the official Nick Heidfeld website at www.nickheidfeld.com and submit their own design proposals for a helmet to be worn by the BMW Sauber F1 driver in the Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.

Contestants will have at their disposal a CAD (Computer Assisted Design) tool installed on the website, complete with color palette, brushes and shapes to assist them in their efforts. The design proposals submitted by site users will be displayed in a gallery and then entered for the competition. Manufacturers Schuberth will then incorporate the winning motif into the helmet to be worn by Nick during the weekend of the German Grand Prix (10th – 12th July).

“The purpose of this competition is to allow my fans to give free rein to their artistic talents in coming up with a suitable design for my outing at the Nürburgring," explains Nick. “I’m looking forward to seeing the results of all this creative input. I am always on the lookout for new ideas – in the case of my current helmet design, I got the inspiration from a snowboarder."

“I’ll be getting together with Jens Munser, who has been designing helmets for me over the years, and we’ll pick out the best entry. The winner of the competition will personally present me with the new helmet just before the first free practice session on the Friday of the race weekend. That will certainly be a great moment for both of us," adds Nick. The winner will also be a guest of the Nürburgring, receiving two Gold Tickets valid for the whole F1 Grand Prix weekend.

After the race, the helmet will be donated to RTL for the broadcaster to auction off in aid of its ‘Wir helfen Kindern’ e.V. charity foundation within the wider context of this year’s ‘Spendenmarathon’ appeal. The auction is to be launched on Friday 10th July at the Golf Grand Prix evening event in the ‘Erlebniswelt’ at the Nürburgring. E-mail bidding will then open for the helmet at auktion@spendenmarathon.de. Nick is pleased to support this charity project: “I’m also keen that the competition should have a useful outcome and help a good cause. That’s why we’ve offered this unique helmet for auction as part of the RTL ‘Spendenmarathon’. I’m obviously hopeful that the auction raises lots of funds for this worthwhile project on behalf of needy children."

Media partner for the full duration of the competition will be SPORT BILD. Other partners are the Nürburgring, who will be supplying the race weekend tickets, and helmet manufacturer Schuberth GmbH. Nick has expressed his gratitude “to all the partners who are supporting this great campaign."
