Heidfeld crashes in final Barcelona practice

(GMM) Mechanics in Barcelona are busily repairing Nick Heidfeld's BMW-Sauber in the less than two hours before qualifying.

The German driver crashed at turn 12, causing heavy damage to the front left corner of his F1.09, during Saturday morning's final practice session.

With the same heavily revised 2009 package, however, his teammate Robert Kubica was a promising fifth quickest, behind the leading Ferrari and Brawn pace.

Also in updated cars, including an interim double diffuser, Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen topped the practice timesheets, several tenths ahead of championship leader Jenson Button.

Button had said after Friday practice that he was not happy with the balance of his car.

"Rubens was very happy with the performance however we have experienced some issues with the performance of the (new) package on Jenson's car," team boss Ross Brawn confirmed.
